COMM 372T Reflection Post

This course taught me a lot about rethinking the way new media technology is present in my life. I also believe it reinforced to me the need to make sure that I am using these technologies to my advantage as opposed to letting the technology take advantage of me. Some of the most interesting aspects of this course were learning about the way new media such as social apps have influenced the way we present ourselves or a version of ourselves and have changed the way we communicate using iconography and emojis as well as how we are experiencing life in a modern world and realizing how much we all rely on these technologies in ways we do not even appreciate.

New media technology is all around us and intertwined in our routine so deeply that we as a society are forgetting some of the "old tech" resources our parents grew up using. A great example of this is the section on GPS-location technology and our dependence on map apps. I wonder if any millennial twenty-somethings can even use a printed map anymore?

When considering all that I have learned in this course and going back through and analyzing my ePortfolio design and functionality, I realized that my site is outdated. Throughout this class I have learned about the implications that can have on my brand reputation and I need to update the overall look and feel to be more reflective of who I want to be in the future as well as integrating more technology into the site itself. I will walk away from this class with a much better appreciation and understanding of new media technologies and how to use it to enhance my presence online.
