Wix Widely Adopted with Good Reason
Well Wix we meet again! It seems that Wix has become the accepted form of self-presentation at Old Dominion University - at least in my last two Communications classes. I can see why too. Wix is fairly easy to use, although it does take some getting used to here and there, and allows someone to create an online identity for them. Wix website builder is a nice feature to have since the invention of social media has made online identities even a thing to consider.
In today's society and thanks to technology, there is even a chance that our online brand is being created for us, whether we like it or not, due to social media tagging that allows any of your friends to associate you with a photo, phrase, etc. In order to manage your internet profile if you will, you need to be aware of how others view you and what information is on the web already. This becomes very important when employers look up their potential employees. With a Wix website, you can create the personality and image you desire with a few clicks of the mouse.
For this assignment I have updated my Wix site as follows: Added a new page called "Resume" in the main navigation of the site. Here I was able to provide a direct link to a PDF version of my resume, which is easy for potential employers to download. I changed my title from "Marketing Communications Specialist" to "Marketing Communications Coordinator" in the "Experience" section to better match my resume. Under the "Skills" section I transformed the listed information from languages I speak and certification I hold to more accurately reflect what areas of digital marketing I focus on such as email marketing, search engine optimization, analytics and reporting. I've attached the previous site screen captures to this blog for reference.
Overall, the format of a free website for personal representation that almost anyone can use is a advantageous tool to have access to. Wix can be added to a LinkedIn page and/or resume as another source. I personally have not added it to my sites yet since I think my page still could use some refinement. More than anything the design of my site needs to be updated. I think the content is well fleshed out, but I would prefer to have the navigation and design a little more elegant and streamlined. Another area I will build out of my experiences is going to be "case studies” of projects I managed. I plan to showcase proven methods and results from actual campaigns.
All-in-all I want to be sure anyone looking to hire me and determine if I'm the right candidate in less than one minute. It's a lofty goal and I'm hoping Wix can help me achieve it. Here's to another fun semester of Wix at ODU!
